Auf Janina Kriszio wirkt die Kombination aus Fotos und Interviewzitaten im 2002 erschienen Buch „Schlafzimmer. London, Berlin, Moskau, Rom, New York, Paris“ von Herlinde Koelbl (*1939) fast filmisch: „Dieser Moment der fotografischen Beobachtung wird durch das Zitat ein bisschen in die Länge gezogen.“ Ansonsten spielt das Buch auf vielen Ebenen mit den Qualitäten von Fotografie als populärem Bildmedium: Der Blick ins Schlafzimmer könnte wie der eines Paparazzis wirken, die Weltläufigkeit der Fotografin artikuliert sich in einem Netzwerk von näher oder entfernter miteinander bekannter Menschen, der Metropolenvergleich lädt dazu ein, Städte-Klischees sowohl zu bedienen als auch zu hinterfragen. Und alles noch unter dem ersten Eindruck von „big-brother“.

For Janina Kriszio the combination of photos and interview quotations in the 2002 book Schlafzimmer. London, Berlin, Moskau, Rom, New York, Paris [Bedrooms: London, Berlin, Moscow, Rome, New York, Paris] by Herlinde Koelbl (b.1939) has an almost filmic quality: “The moment of contemplating the photo is drawn out somewhat by the quotation.” The book also plays on many levels with the characteristics of photography as a popular visual medium: we gaze into bedrooms, as paparazzi might; the photographer’s worldliness expresses itself in a network of people more or less familiar to each other; the comparison of world cities invites the reader both to use and question urban clichés. And all of this is overlaid by our first impression that “big brother is watching you”.
